Repercussions of the terrorist attacks on the newspaper “Charlie Hebdo” appear in France through harassment against Muslims and members of the Algerian community, and in several European countries, including Spain, where expatriates complain of the rising hatred against them, and narrowing employment opportunities and a fierce campaign to deport illegal immigrants.

Algerian expatriates in the Spanish capital Madrid, told Echorouk that the consequences of recent incidents in France after the terrorist attack on the sarcastic newspaper ‘Charlie Hebdo’, on the Algerian community members in Spain, include severe harassment, whether by security services or Spanish citizens, as the various public places and institutions in Madrid are cordoned by strict security procedures in preparation for the occurrence of any attack similar to that in France.
According to Echorouk sources, Algerians and Moroccans are the most targeted by cops during the recurrent inspections in the metro and in public places, in addition to repeated testing identity documentations,
Algerians who are living in the Spanish capital for years are astonished of the growing hatred against them after the recent events, and classifying them as a ‘risk’ by Spanish citizens, who are avoiding any kind of dealing with them, especially with respect to renting houses and employment.
They assert that the economic crisis that hit Spain had left a problem in jobs in recent years, but recent events make situation worse, through harassment against Algerians, and subjecting them to expulsion from their posts, wherever they go, for fear of carrying out any kind of attacks, a behavior that is condemned by Algerian community in Spain, confirming that they coexist with different nationalities and religions abroad, and their presence there for work away from the adoption of any extremist ideas.
