Algerians in southern Algeria turned into minority

Algerian deputy Minister of Interior Dahou Oueld Kablia revealed the existence of a joint commission composed of representatives of interior, defence, justice and foreign affairs ministries meant to resolve nomads’ civil status. Many of their members have no identity documents because of instability.

• He explained that the commission studied 16,895 files concerning their children’s civil status living in southern areas.
•  He added that the commission accepted 13 thousand files and rejected 452 others pending to end up with 4,485 files still under study.
• This procedure touched Adrar, Ilizi, Tamenrasset and Tindouf provinces (south of Algeria), according to the same source.
• To reduce this phenomenon spread, the government extended deadlines of birth declaration in southern areas to 60 days instead of 5 days, as it is the case in the northern provinces.
• He mentioned that the government established a technical committee in charge of investigating on the reasons of these late declarations about nomads’ civil status. A total of 41 administrative centres are due to be opened in the south including nine in Adrar, 22 in Tamenrasset, 8 in Illizi and two in Tindouf.
• New administrative division does not exceed new provinces
• Dahou Oueld Kablia confirmed that the administrative division will not affect the 48 current provinces borders.
• “What is happening in the preparation of this work does not exceed some regions’ promotion to become administrative provinces,” he told journalists.
