Figures by the Algerian customs revealed Algeria imported 352.315 cars from Japan, China, Turkey, France, Germany and USA with the amount of 286.9b dinars, the equivalent of 28.690b dinars if we count taxes. 

  • However, it imported 217.742 cars with 172b dinars in 2007; this means that Algeria’s imports rose during the first six months of 2008 by 35% compared to 2007, but immediately after of the implementation of the tax imposed by the government on the new cars September 2008, cars imports and sales noticed a declined by 80%, despite the cuts which reached 100.000 dinars as well as gifts given to clients and other procedures which did not succeed.

  • Figured by the customs authorities, available at Echorouk, show 80% of cars which entered the Algerian market in 2008 were imported during the first six months of 2008, i.e. before the application of the tax on more than 250.000 new cars, while its imports in the six months following the cars taxation reached 100.000 cars, which means that they declined by 80% in September.
