Both chambers of the French Parliament dropped the Amendment No. 74, which was included on the Nationality and Equality Act, which provided for the granting of French citizenship to Algerians who were born before January,1, 1963, and who lost it from this date.

French National Assembly “parliament” merely pointed out that the amendment was withdrawn without stating the reasons for withdrawing it from the list of amendments that were adopted, as the list which was checked out, does not include this amendment, which means that the discussion of the law which will be launched at the French Senate on October 4 will not include this proposal.

Given the original text of the amendment it is stated that the people who were born before on January,1, 1963 in France or in the regions or provinces overseas that remained under French sovereignty or to a parent born in Algeria, and who lost the French nationality on January, 1, 1963, can re-register with a written request either in France or abroad.

Amendment, which was canceled, attracted the attention of thousands of Algerians early last July after the publication of its content in an earlier number of Echorouk, especially the Algerians who had the French nationality and that was dropped from them on January, 1, 1963 based on a French prescriptive that was issued in 1962 related to the consequences of Algeria’s independence.

Previously, the amendment was signed by 95 French MPs in the National Assembly, who belong to different political parties, including socialists, republicans and affiliated with the Greens and other formations, but this consensus on the amendment did not satisfy them and was withdrawn from the list of amendments that were adopted by the relevant committee.
