Members of the Citizenship Initiative presented on Saturday the final report “We build 2020” for the national public opinion through an open conference, before launching its delivery to the political, economic and social leader, and heads of political parties and associative organizations, by the beginning of next month.

Spokesman of the initiative, Abdelkrim Boudraa said, during the presentation of the main points of the report, that hundreds of Algerian experts from Algeria and abroad participated in its preparation, adding that this is the first effort of its kind in the country, and is the result of a consultant work throughout 2012, based on dynamic economic, social and institutional analysis for 2020, as well as reviewing dozens of successful international experiences, noting that the report included 50 structured projects in five axes, ranging from economic development and job creation, education, knowledge and innovation, health, collective coexistence and governance, which must accelerate to remedy the retardation in the coming seven years.

The report, which was unveiled on Saturday, showed that Algeria did not reach the development process which should have been reached by an oil country with capabilities of Algeria, pointing, with a digital approach, to the enormous development of South Korea and Malaysia, during the past 50 years, doubling the GDP of a Korean citizen with 16 times, and with 5 times for a Malaysian individual, while Algeria remained among the underdeveloped countries at all levels.

The report also showed that Algeria lost its industry since the independence, as it is currently representing only 6% of the gross national production compared with 25 to 35% in the emerging countries, while the report criticized poor governance of administration and public life and institutions in Algeria, as global reports ranked Algeria in the last rank globally among 100 countries in the field of transparency of the budget, and ranked it 73 among 100 in the area of rule of law, and 66 out of 100 in the area of the effectiveness of the state, and ranked 89 among 100 countries in the field of quality of public regulation.

Experts, supervisors of the initiative asserted that; “time is running out Algeria, and if it will not bring a deep change of its path, and quickly we will be blocked with a wall at all the economic, social, political and environmental levels, because the matter is no longer about optimism and pessimism, as far as it has become a need to take another turn that avoids Algeria from disappearing, because Algeria will consume in 2025 all its foreign exchange reserves, and will its debts will reach $ 80 billion, with a decline in hydrocarbon exports and a sharp rise in the energy consumption of the population within 44 million inhabitants”.

The report called upon the government to hurry up and put out all the major population centers from the coast and trend towards reconstruction of the desert, and implement a policy of regional balance, develop cities in the hills and desert, stop urbanization at the expense of agriculture, and improve the quality of life, especially through reformatting Urbanization and the inclusion of smart architecture, the application of clever standards through the integration of citizens who move from the countryside to the city through employment, housing and school, in order to eliminate fragile barracks, exclusion and marginalization, support mass coexistence, increase the effectiveness of state and corporate governance, upgrade budget transparency and effective separation of powers and institutions, promote economic freedom, and promote the role of the state as a real and strong dealer in development.
