Algeria's National Statistics Office set to conduct general population and housing census annually starting from 2015

The General Manager of the National Statistics Office announced Wednesday that his office has decided, in line with the authorities’ guidelines, to carry out a General Population and Housing Census on an annual basis starting from the year 2015.

•  Speaking during a press conference at the main premises of the National Statistics Office, in Bir Mourad Rais district in upper Algiers, Mohamed Boumati said that his Office was set to conduct precise and reliable census operations in line with International norms and standards.
• He indicated that such operations would include all data, information and statistics related to population and housing as well as to the gross domestic product and the unemployment rate in Algeria.
• However, he expressed regret at the lack of clear-cut figures regarding the precise national rate of joblessness on the part of the relevant authorities.
• Mohamed Boumati added that his office was still expecting a formal response from the government pertaining to a request for the allocation of an appropriate financial package to help the National Statistics Office undertake a modern and most reliable census operation in conformity with International criteria.
