Algeria’s New President Abdelmadjid Tebboune Offers Dialogue To Protesters
There is no continuity for the “fifth bid” and the previous practices, the elected President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said.
“There is no amnesty for the gang and those involved in corruption. I thank the four candidates who contested me in the presidential elections and I am ready for dialogue with all individuals without any distinction and the four candidates as well. The dissolution of parliament and local councils will be realized in the coming days”.
At a press conference on Friday evening at Abdellatif Rahal Convention Center, Tebboune confirmed that the elections ended and now is the time for action, without marginalization or exclusion and without any tendency to revenge as it is promoted here and there.
“I will work to turn the page of the past and open a new page with serious work and a new method.”
President Tebboune sent a message of gratitude to the Algerian people, especially the youth, confirming his commitment to do the best efforts to enable them to receive the torch, as he greeted citizens who voted for the other candidates and those who boycotted the electoral process, and said that the popular protests “Hirak” are a blessing, saying; “I extend to them my hand for serious dialogue for Algeria and just Algeria”.
Tebboune also sent his greetings to the military institution, headed by the wise and jihadist leadership, “In particular, the Major General, Gaid Salah” adding, “The army is the one that protected the popular protests “Hirak”, as no drop of blood was lost after 10 months, despite those who were planning at home and abroad to eliminate the Algerian state”.
“Our dream is to establish a patriotic state in which no one oppresses us, in which we continue to fight the corrupts and their elements wherever they are.”
“I send my greetings to the President of the State, Abdelkader Ben Salah, for his immense services to the homeland despite what he has faced and Mohamed Chorfi and all members of the Independent Electoral Commission”.
“Honorable businessmen who create wealth and work and support for the national treasury are an integral part of Algeria. I pledge before you to restore the university to its leading position and all segments of society that are still demanding decent living. I thank all our communities abroad that suffered during the electoral process, and this is conclusive evidence of their patriotic spirit”.
The President of the Republic also revealed that the first decision that will be initiated is a fundamental change of the constitution in the near future, through a popular referendum, and by involving experts and professors in the constitutional law. I will change the election law and will permanently separate the money from the elections, so that young people can run. The election fees for the youth will be the responsibility of the state”.
“I will work to remove the injustice from those who were wronged by the gang, and we will recover their rights. When I talk about the Kabylie areas, this will be with a special feeling. I am eager to visit the provinces of Tizi Ouzou and Bejaia soon”.
Commenting on French President Emmanuel Macron’s statements regarding the presidential elections, the President of the Republic said, “He is free to market the goods he wants in his country. I only recognize the Algerian people who elected me.”
