Algeria's Position On Libya Angers Arab Regimes

Some of the Arab regimes expressed their concern at Algeria’s position on the Libyan crisis, which is represented by the support of the National Reconciliation Government that is led by Fayez Al-Sarraj, the government that was created by the political agreement that was signed in December 2015, and confirming its rejection of external interference, and the exclusion of any party in the political process except for terrorist organizations, which are Al Qaeda, ISIS and Ansar Al-Sharia, as the latter announced its self dissolution.

Al-Arab Daily Newspaper published in London, on Thursday, an article in which it prejudiced Algeria, under the title “Algeria seeks to provide political cover for the militants in Libya”.

The article carried many inaccuracies, claiming that Algeria is working to support the Muslim Brotherhood and the alliance with the Islamists, and rejecting the military work, as all these ideas are the brainchild of the Egyptian and Emirati regimes, which oppose the Brotherhood and are working to support the General Khalifa Haftar.

“Algeria wants to maintain its alliances with the Islamists in neighboring countries, which reflects its rejection of the military operations that are carried out by Egypt in cooperation with the Libyan army against the terrorist groups in Al Djefra and Derna cities. Algeria neglects, through its alliance with the Islamists the security threats to the region and strengthens the accusations that are seeking to perpetuate the Libyan crisis in order to preserve its security.”

“Algeria, through its alliance with the Islamists, is neglecting the security threats against the region and reinforce the accusations seek to perpetuate the Libyan crisis, in order to maintain its security, although Algeria, and since the beginning of the crisis, confirmed the need to find a Libya-Libya solution, without excluding any party of the political process, and over four years, Algeria received various political formations of Libya, whether the moderate Islamic, National, Leftist or Liberal, and confirmed that it excludes the terrorist organizations like ISIS, Al Qaeda and Ansar Al Sharia from the political process”.

But the London-based Al Arab newspaper’s article provides misinformation about Algeria’s approach and its view of the Islamists, saying: “Since the outbreak of the Libyan crisis, Algeria insisted on the need to resolve it politically through dialogue, which is surprising the observers of the Libyan issue, as how can Libyans dialogue with gunmen who do not believe in the civil state, such as those in Derna”.

Egyptian authorities also stepped up the positions of the international community, including Algeria, which calls for the exclusion of foreign military intervention in the Libyan soil, as Al Sissi carries out bombardments of sites that he says belong to ISIS in the eastern city of Derna, confirming that the party which planned to attack the Egyptian Copts, since days and left 28 dead, is located in the coastal city of Derna.

Media sources reported that the Government of Fayez el-Sarraj which won international legitimacy, asked Algeria to intervene with Al Sissi to stop the military operations that are carried out by the Egyptian armed forces.

Coming meeting on Monday and Tuesday in Algeria, which brings together the Minister, Abdelkader Messahel, and his Tunisian counterpart Khemaies Al Jhinaoui and Egyptian Sameh Shoukry, to assess the general situation in Libya, will put a lot of points on letters, especially as Cairo will be, during the meeting, burdened, by its violation of the Libyan soil, and accused of fueling the conflict in the neighboring Sudan, by supporting the rebels of southern Sudan,

Algeria and Tunisia, which share the same position over the Libyan crisis, are expected to confirm that the solution in Libya will be only political, and assert that they refuse the foreign military action, while the Egyptian diplomat will try to defend the military operations of his country by justifying retribution for Egyptian civilians.
