Local officials in charge of the New Town of Sidi Abdallah projects turned the town’s urban character into an industrial zone with private economic institutions.

Investigations show that officials changed the purpose of a 8,000-square meter-area into a 16,000-square meter-area which was supposed to shelter a restaurant, a small clinic, a shopping center and some necessary facilities for investors. The land was given to a private operator in an illegal way.

An investor was allowed to set up a distraction park in the area in suspicious circumstances while a similar request which was submitted by another operator in 2008 was rejected under the pretext of the lack of real-estate and water.

A letter intended to the Algerian housing minister Abdelmadjid Tebboune says more real-estates are allocated for the same purposes and in the same circumstances.

The ministry relies on the areas it obtained as part of the New Town to build AADL houses.
