Algiers court opens phone call misuses case
A court in Algiers.

A criminal court in Algiers is expected to decide in a 9 billion centimes squandering-related case of which an agency of Algerie Telecom in Algiers was victim. Most of the suspects are officials and employees there including 7 women who have been put under judicial control.

  • The case started when local director of Algerie Telecom lodged a complaint to General Attorney at a court in Algiers on April 4th, 2004 against employees involved in passing international phone calls to the suspects’ relatives abroad.
  • Algerie Telecom sent consumption invoices to abandoned houses whose owners had died. Phone lines of Subscribers who asked for cutting them were overused and many calls were passed through other countries in the world.
  • Investigation showed that virtual people had got phone lines and some other people get phone invoices though their lines have not been set up yet.
