The protest of 1800 employees of the engineering department at Air Algerie, in Algiers International Airport, provoked disturbance in flights schedule on Friday from 9 AM, to midday.

This unexpected strike of technical staff forced their national trade union to hold urgent meeting on the evening to discuss the situation.

The Secretary General of the non affiliated trade union of aeronautics staff, Abderahmane Khlifa, revealed that while the strike was goin on, the officials in charge of Air Algerie decided permitting many aircrafts to take off in the morning, without being subjected to routine technical control of engineers, which is illegal and unsafe for passengers.

Mr Khlifa further added that the strike of the staff was a logic reaction to their bad working conditions, pointing out that recent statements made by CEO of Air Algerie, Ouahid Bouabdellah, incited the 1800 employees to suddenly start strike.

“We have been serving for 40 years, and our performance honors aeronautics,” the unionist said.
