An Algerian national rounded up at the airport of New York
An Algerian national was indeed held at his landing at New York Airport by US security officers, reported this Thursday, February 2, the official APS agency, citing “informed sources”.
However, the reasons for the arrest are still not known: “The reasons behind this detention are unknown,” they said.
The same source suggested that this was not ostensibly linked to the much-controversial anti-migration decree signed by American president Donald Trump, suspending visas for several predominantly Muslim countries.
On Wednesday, an American journalist reported the detention at a US Airport of several individuals, from several countries not concerned by the decree in question, including Algeria.
The US ambassador to Algeria, Ms Joan Polaschik, subsequently denied the information.
Ambassador Joan Polashik also insisted to this effect that Algeria was not among those countries affected by the suspension of visas for several Muslim-majority countries introduced of late by US President Donald Trump.
