An old retired pensioner as well his son and 4 other defendants stood trial before the criminal court of Oran, in western Algeria, on charges of drugs trafficking and money laundering.

3 other accused are still at large including the son of the old man (B. M) who has purchased several villas in Algeria and Morocco thanks to the dirty revenues of drugs smuggling for several years.

The presiding judge inflicted 20 years of detention on the 4 culprits and a fine of 5 million dinars.

As for the old smuggler (B.M), he was given by the judge 6 years in prison coupled with a fine amounting to 2 million dinars.

The arrests were made after a thorough and lengthy investigation conducted jointly by the services of the National Gendarmerie and the National Police over the past few weeks.

This nefarious ring which smuggled drugs from Morocco was blasted after the discovery by the security forces of 166 kg of cannabis inside a rented villa in western Algeria last April.

The remaining wanted smugglers, still at large, are being tracked down relentlessly by the security services.
