Arab lawyers call for an international inquiry over the Israeli attack on Gaza- bound humanitarian convoy

Arab and Algerian lawyers have condemned the genocide perpetrated by the Israeli commando on a flotilla carrying aid for Palestinians in Gaza, qualifying it as an international piracy which requires the intervention of the international community through the United Nations in order to issue immediate and coercive sanctions.

• In a declaration made yesterday to Echourouk the expert in the international law, Doctor Boudjellal has indicated that Israel has committed a double crime in the sense that it has not only starved innocent civilians, but also attacked humanitarian activists protected by the international laws. “Israel had to check the content of the flotilla, not strike it and arrest its passengers”, he said.

• The Israeli authorities, according to him, have infringed the Geneva charter especially the fourth provision which stipulates that the colonial forces have to give assistance to humanitarian aids on the occupied territories, or at least facilitate their entry indicating that Israel didn’t respect these two principles.

• He concluded saying that the United Nations should vote a resolution that incriminates any attack on a humanitarian act, indicating that the presence of the humanitarian convoy on the international waters forbids Israel from attacking it.

• For his part, Doctor Hassen Abidi has indicated that marine laws are crystal clear and incriminates any attack on vessels sailing on the international waters “ what happened is simply a violation of the international agreements that govern the seas and is considered as a war crime and piracy, because the international law guarantees freedom of oceangoing sailing”.

• The doctor has billed the attack as a genuine piracy “ because it consisted in impeding, sequestrating and killing of passengers on the international waters”, calling on the parliamentarians that took part to the mission to lodge a complaint at the International Penal Court that has to forward the case to UN Security Council since Israel is not a member of the International Penal Court.

• Boudjemaa Guechir considers the attack on the humanitarian convoy as a heinous crime asking for the opening of an international inquiry on the act. He was dismissive to the Israelis’ allegations that the passengers were about to attack the Israeli troops.
