Arab League General Secretary calls on the Arab countries to recover water stolen by Israel .

Talking yesterday in Algiers, the Arab League General Secretary Amr Moussa has called for a unified Arab strategy to face up to the Israeli dilapidation of the Palestinian , Lebanese, Syrian and Jordanian water sources.

  • He formally asked the concerned countries to act on the Arab and international level to retrieve the waters pumped up by the Israel since decades.

  • Amr Moussa praised the joint venture initiated by Algeria, Libya and Tunisia in the exploitation and management of the common underground waters in the northern Sahara. The creation of the Arab Council for Waters will enable the Arab League to tackle one of the most intricate problems of the current century, he noted.

  • He added that the last Kuwaiti summit enabled the Arab League to insert strategic issues including water sources protection and the appropriate exploitation of the Arab water resources, along with the coordination with the neighboring countries like Turkey and African countries from which springs the Nile and Senegal rivers.

  • Amr Moussa considered the first meeting of the Arab water resources ministers held in Algiers as breakthrough in the common Arab endeavour adding that these nations have to double efforts to secure their needs of this strategic element.

  • The Arab League experts agreed upon the fact that the region will face a crucial water shortage over the next 20 years.
