Algeria December 11 attacks

Algerian army Sunday found important quantities of chemical products and bombs in terrorist hideouts intended for use in suicide attacks, a military source said.

  • “Considerable quantities of explosives and chemical products were discovered in the hideouts of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) in Boumerdes and Tizi Ouzou (east of Algiers),” said the same source.

  • Terrorists were going to use the bombs to carry out suicide attacks on the first anniversary of double bombings in Algiers on December 11, it added.

  • Security forces foiled the execution of the attacks due to in formation given by a repentant terrorist, who surrendered in early December.

  • Mohamed. B. nicknamed Talha has been working for terrorist groups in Boumerdes and Tizi Ouzou since 2004.

  • Last year, a double car bombing on UN offices and the Constitutional Council in Algiers killed over 20 people and wounded nearly 200 on December 11.

  • The GSPC claimed responsibility for the attacks.
