Ask The Interior Ministry To Grant Citizenship For Algerians Who Were Born in France before July, 21,1962
French National Assembly “parliament” asked the Interior Ministry to settle the status of Algerians who were born in France before July,1, 1693 of Algerian parents, and consider the possibility of granting them citizenship again.
According to parliamentary accountability of an MP, Guy Teissier, that was published on October 18, 2010, which copy is available to Echorouk, those Algerians were able to obtain French citizenship in the context of what is known as the right to land or place of birth, but they have been deprived of it by the application of the procedure No. 62-825 dated in July,21, 1962 relating to certain procedures for obtaining French citizenship.
This situation, according to the same document, is the reason for the creation of a state of racism between people who were born before this date, and who can not obtain the French citizenship, and they are forced to stay in Algeria, and among them, those who were born after that date and who have the right to obtain the French citizenship, and those who also enjoy freedom of movement between Algeria and France.
Same accountability confirms that the Decree No. 2010-506 of May,18, 2010, on simplifying the proceedings of granting and renewing the national identity cards and passports, is not compatible with all cases, explaining that these people are linked very much with France and want to know if the country where they were born can take procedures to enable them to obtain the French citizenship.
French parliament has dropped an amendment to the Equality and Citizenship Act, which provided for the granting of French citizenship to Algerians who were born before January,1, 1963 on the French territory or in a province or territory of the regions beyond the sea but that is under the French sovereignty.
