Aures inhabitants and their attachment to ancestral celebration of Yennayer

BATNA (Algeria) – In the remote villages of the province of Batna (430 km east of Algiers), people, especially women, remain firmly attached to the celebration of Yennayer, Amazigh New Year, a sign of loyalty to the traditions inherited from their ancestors, since ancient time.

In Merouana, Arris, Theniet El Abed, Menaa and many other localities, the Aures families dive back with pleasure, at this time, in practices received from their mothers and grandmothers, as the preparation of the traditional dish “chekhchoukha” filled with sheep meat.

Moreover this succulent dish will be exclusively served women, which gives all its particularity to this Chaoui custom (Aures mountain inhabitants).

Some women also prepare on this occasion, the dish called here” icherchem” made from hard wheat boiled first in water and mixed with butter and mountain farm honey, to the delight of lovers of traditional pastries whose “Bio” quality is proven.
