Azmi Bichara to Echorouk's Forum: “Egypt is accountable for what is happening in Palestine”
Palestinian writer, militant and thinker, Azmi Bichara, has said that the Egyptian regime is indirectly responsible for the Palestinians' untold sufferings meted out to them by the callous Zionist occupiers in the West Bank and Gaza strip.
- Taking the floor as a distinguished guest of Echorouk ‘s Forum on the sidelines of the International book showroom now being held at the Olympic stadium in upper Algiers, Azmi Bichara castigated the ruling class in Egypt for kowtowing behind the scenes to the Zionist rulers in Israel saying that this blameworthy drift in Egypt’s foreign policy came about in the first place with late Egyptian President Anouar Sadate.
- The Cairo regime has since then sought to foist on the Arab and world public opinions that the Palestinian cause was a cause which regarded the Palestinians themselves, he asserted bluntly.
- The Palestinian thinker did not miss the opportunity to bring into focus the steadfast stand of Algeria which has always upheld on all occasions the cause of the oppressed Palestinian people and their legitimate and inalienable right to set up their own independent state with Jerusalem or Al Qods as their rightful capital.
- Azmi Bichara added that during his encounters in Algeria with numerous Algerian officials, students or mere citizens, he had realized that the Algerians were fully aware of the paramount importance of the Palestinian cause and the imperious necessity for all freedom-loving peoples around the world to extend it full support until the fulfillment of the Palestinian people’s aspirations for freedom and independence.
