Bad weather: 2 dead and extensive material damage due to floods in central part of Algeria
The torrential rains which have poured down over the past two days on the capital Algiers and other regions of the central part of the country have left two dead and caused considerable material damage.

Numerous dwellings and trading facilities situated in downtown Algiers were invaded by surging waters following torrential rains .
- The heavy rainfalls also provoked many power cuts in several parts of the capital .
- Many roads were also cut to traffic for several hours on account of the bad weather conditions and sewerage systems were blocked because of torrents of mud and debris due to the ceaseless rainfalls on most parts of the capital Algiers and its suburbs .
- Several housing compounds in and around Algiers were flooded by the surging waters and the residents had to call for the swift intervention of the civil protection squads to remedy the situation.
- Meanwhile, in the province of Tizi Ouzou, some 110 km east of Algiers, two people were reportedly killed on Sunday in road accidents, the first one near the town of Freha and the second one on the road linking Tizi Ouzou to Azazga on account of the bad weather conditions prevailing in the region.
