Baggies make Bougherra bid : West Brom look to land Algerian stopper

Skysports.com understands that West Bromwich Albion have launched a bid for Charlton defender Madjid Bougherra, but they face stiff competition to land the African star.

• Real Betis were leading the chase for the Algerian – as exclusively revealed by skysports.com – but now the highly-rated 25-year-old will have the chance to move to the Premier League.
• Newly promoted West Brom are keen on the stopper, who joined Charlton in January 2007 from Sheffield Wednesday, and have made a firm offer.
• Charlton have already confirmed that they are ready to let Bougherra leave The Valley and are now locked in talks with The Baggies.
• However, there is rival interest with Scottish giants Rangers, Middlesbrough and Sunderland all thought to be considering making late bids for Bougherra.
