Beckham's lawyers in talks on Milan stay

David Beckham's lawyers are discussing with Los Angeles Galaxy the possibility of extending his loan spell at AC Milan, the Italian club said on Wednesday.

  • “His lawyers are in talks with Los Angeles Galaxy,” Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani said on the team’s website (www.acmilan.com). “But there is no negotiation at the moment.”
  • The 33-year-old midfielder, who has been in fine form for Milan, moved to Italy during the U.S. close season on a two-month loan deal to try to stay in contention for a place in the England side.
  • Galliani has said he wants Beckham to stay at Milan after his loan finishes on March 9.
  • For technical reasons, Beckham’s loan is actually until June but there is a written agreement that he goes back to the United States in March.
  • Milan have not yet made an offer for the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player, Galliani said.
  • “To enter a negotiation and eventually close a deal we have time until March 8,” he said.
  • Calls for Beckham to stay at Milan have grown since he surpassed expectations, having scored two goals in his first five starts for the Serie A side.
  • Beckham has repeatedly stated that he will return to Los Angeles when his loan spell ends but Galliani said the player would like to stay.
  • Milan, who are six points behind Serie A leaders Inter Milan, are desperate to keep the England midfielder and have included him in their UEFA Cup squad.
