Bedoui: “We won’t witness an Arab Spring …and others ought to respect the specificities of Algerian society”

The Minister of the Interior and Local Assemblies Mr Noureddine Bedoui has stated that Algeria, despite the destabilizing maneuvers of certain malicious quarters overseas, won’t experience the so-called “Arab Spring” because of the deep maturity and wisdom acquired by its people over the past years.

Mr Bedoui that Algeria is gearing up to witness normal legislative elections to be held later this year with the aim of renewing the members of its national people’s assembly as part of the consolidation of its ongoing democratic process and the bolstering of the rule of law in the country.

Taking the floor on Tuesday evening during a broad-based meeting with civil society members in El Oued province (south-eastern Algeria), the interior minister underlined that certain malevolent circles had been striving to drag Algeria into turmoil and chaos but to no avail, owing to the vigilance and maturity of the Algerian people who utterly reject such a nefarious contingency.

He added that the Algerian society is different with its combination from other communities, stressing to this effect: “I don’t say that we are better than other communities, and we recognize that we have shortcomings, but the other communities ought to respect our privacy and our values because we as Algerians can face up to all challenges as we successfully did during the somber colonial era and the so-called black decade of the nineties”.

Mr Bedoui also underscored that we as  Algerians  must live up to the laws and fundamental values enshrined in  the country’s Constitution and implement them in line with the specificities of the Algerian society, and not wait for the critical and devious comments of others who are sitting abroad and say that our laws are not at the level of our ambitions and our democracy”.

The Interior minister further instructed the country’s Walis or Governors to see to the rationalization of public expenditure, and to order a halt to wasteful spending of public funds by local authorities by following a clear-cut strategy on the matter.
