Belaid Abrika barred from demonstrating outside the Presidency as Kabylians celebrate Berber Spring anniversary.
Police forces prevented on Wednesday Belaid Abrika from protesting outside the premises of the Presidency of the Republic on the heights of Algiers. He was accompanied by a large number of militants from the Arouch citizen movement.
- The protesters demanded from the public authorities to try those who had provoked the bloody events of the so-called Black Spring on the occasion of the commemoration of the 13th anniversary of the Berber Spring by the Kabylian community.
- Belaid Abrika condemned what he termed as “the impunity policy” followed by the public authorities who have wittingly failed, he said, to punish the provocateurs and the trouble-makers involved in the ill-fated events of the black spring in the eastern Kabylia region in 2001.
- Meanwhile, the students of Tizi Ouzou University commemorated Wednesday morning the events of April 20th 1980 by staging two separate marches amid dissentions between sympathizers of the so-called “autonomy” and those of the pro-democracy trend.
