Belkhadem: “FLN Party advocates in-depth revision of the constitution”

The Secretary General of the FLN Party, Abdellaziz Belkhadem, has said that the latest initiatives from opposition parties, associations of the civil society and political figures in favour of a peaceful change in Algeria are natural and reflect the good health and the pluralism on the buoyant Algerian political scene.

  • In a statement to APS, Abdellaziz Belkhadem said that one should not thwart political initiatives when they are expressed peacefully, in   a serene atmosphere and in the respect for the laws of the republic.
  •
  •
  •
  • Mr Belkhadem further raised anew the idea of an in-depth revision of the constitution stressing that the FLN party advocated a thorough revamping of the current constitution which was adopted in a particular juncture in 1996, he said.
  •
  •
  •
  • However, he underlined that the decision to initiate such an endeavour rested with the President of the Republic himself who wields the final say on the matter.
  •
  •
  •
  • Furthermore, Abdellaziz Belkhadem dubbed as “provisional” the refusal by the relevant authorities to give a certified approval to new political parties referring to the probability that new-fangled parties could secure the official seal of approval in the near future.
  •
  •
  •
  • Evoking the latest protest marches In Algiers, the FLN party secretary general emphasized that Algeria, thanks to the high maturity of its people, rejects any devastating trend under the cover of democratic change.
  •
  •
  •
  •  Protests, if any,  should be staged within an organized and a law-abiding framework and in a peaceful atmosphere, he added.
