Belkhadem ignores opponents, defers resignation to the end of January

Secretary General of FLN, Abdelaziz Belkhadem, ignored the escalating movement within the ancient party, and anticipation that characterized the political arena, after having been invited by ministers of the party to step down from FLN’s leadership, in order to avoid an imminent explosion, as a meeting of the Political Bureau, in which ministers in the government were absent, was devoted to discuss regulatory issues that fall in the agenda of the session of the central Committee on January 31, 1st and 2nd February.

All FLN ministers did not attend Sunday’s meeting, as members of the Political Bureau of the Party, at the central headquarters of in Hidra (Algiers), after a step down letter to Belkhadem, which was sent three days ago, pushing him only to hold the meeting in the presence of eight members only, out of 15 members, after an absence of three other

members, one due to death, and it comes Mokhtar Filali, along whith Madani Baradei and Leila Teibi.

Belkhadem tried to minimize the impact of the absence of government ministers in the meeting, focusing in his closing statement that the Political Bureau held on Sunday, a meeting that was attended by “a majority of its members” under the chairmanship of the Secretary General of the party, which was devoted for discussing the topics that

were scheduled at his last meeting.

FLN’s Secretary General, Abdelaziz Belkhadem, said the question of stepping down from the presidency of the party or not, will be decided during the session of the Central Committee, which will be held on January 31 and 1 and 2 February of this year, the body which was deemed in the final statement of the meeting of the Political Bureau,

as the only leadership of the party between two conferences, and is the only power which can decide about all the public affairs of the victorious party, in every elections, as rooted popularly, and adopted by the success of the reforms and in ensuring stability politically, institutionally and socially.

This point was understood by his rivals as playing on the paper of social peace and security, and serves as coded messages from Belkhadem to decision-makers in the country, and that he is capable of fueling the street and hit the stability if the rug will be pulled from his feet and removed from FLN’s leadership.
