Belkhadem uses “Parliamentary majority” to remain FLN's Secretary General

Secretary General of the National Liberation Front Party (FLN),Abdelaziz Belkhadem, asked deputies in the National People’s Assembly,to revolt against the ministers in the government of the PrimeMinister Abdelmalek Sellal, who demand his departure from theSecretariat of the party, and pressurized them to issue a statementannouncing their non-conditional support to him at any step as alegitimate Secretary-General of the ancient party.

FLN’s parliamentary bloc with its two chambers issued on Friday, a

statement that was accompanied by an explanation of the first

statement, which was issued on January, 8 from the same group, in

which it confirmed its commitments to the political leadership of the

party, led by the Secretary General of the Party Abdelaziz Belkhadem,

who realized, according to the bloc, consecutive victories, including

efforts which were purely made to serve the party and Algeria.

The statement, was signed by the head FLN’s parliamentary group, at

the National People’s Council, Taher Khawa, and accompanied by a list

of signatures of MPs of the two chambers, which reached 158 from the

Lower chamber, and 6 MPs in the house of representatives, after the

meeting of PMs of the parliamentary bloc of the party, at the party’s

office on Monday, 7 January 2013.

It says;”We reject all external actions and abuses of the legal

frameworks of party’s documents and its rules, and uphold the

legitimacy emanating from the ninth Congress. “

The bloc implicitly called upon, reverse to the first statement, the

President Bouteflika, to run for a fourth term to complete the course

of development and reform, and meet the challenges of the present and

future, as stated in the first statement; “Bouteflika is the head of

the National Liberation Front, and its candidate for the upcoming

presidential elections.”

Observers to the political matter say that, Belkhadem resorted to the

parliamentary bloc of the party to face the ministers of the party in

government, after he failed to hold regional meetings to mobilize

popular support for him, as if he is taking advantage of the

experience of the former Secretary General of FLN, Ali Benflis, and

wanted to take advantage of the gaps that occurred in Benflis era, who

had in the hand the card of the parliamentary bloc of the party, but

did not use it, as Belkhadem is now reap the fruits of his investment

in the House of Representatives, who came to parliament thanks to him,

as he had broad powers in the appointment of the party’s lists in last

May legislative elections.

The parliamentary bloc of the National Liberation Front Party,

represents the majority in the National People’s Assembly, as the

Constitution grants, in its articles 135, 136, and 137, the right of

the parliamentary majority to prevent withdrawing confidence from the

government, which includes ministers of the party, who rebelled

against Belkhadem.
