Ben Saleh: Algeria rejects blackmail in In Amenas operation

Algeria rejected blackmail during the terrorist attack on a gas complex in In Amenas and chose an appropriate solution, said Abdelkader Ben Saleh, speaker of National Council.

“The Algerian military action which ended Tiguentourine besiege foiled a plot against the country,” Ben Saleh told senators.

He added that the way used by the Algerian army to end the attack will be a lesson to everyone who tries to hit Algeria’s security and safety.

Ben Saleh’s remarks come in response to criticism of a military operation carried out by the Algerian army in the gas facility.

“I thank workers in the gas complex in In Amenas and the Algerian people for their wonderful solidarity,” he said.

He added that Algeria rejected blackmail and it chose “the most appropriate solution.”

A total of 29 terrorists, 36 foreign hostages and an Algerian worker were killed in an attack on a gas plant in In Amenas, southern Algeria, a few days ago.

“Our country experienced hard times but it was the winner at the end. The Algerian people showed great solidarity and unity against the coward terrorist attack,” he said.

He described the terrorist attack as“plot” against Algeria’s stability.

“Yet, our armed forces, the police and the complex workers foiled that plot and gave a lesson to those who wanted to harm Algeria.”

He condemned the attack and presented condolences to victim families.
