Benbada: “The E.U and the USA are behind the slow pace of Algeria's adhesion to WTO”

The Trade Minister, Mustapha Benbada, has revealed that the discussions on the revision of some clauses of the trade agreement with the European Union are on good track, after the European side's approval of a set of claims put forth by the Algerian government …

 

  • Mr Benbada who was Wednesday the distinguished guest of Echorouk’s Forum said that the European side had shown understanding and goodwill towards the Algerian government’s pressing concerns regarding some outstanding provisions of the accord.

  • The trade Minister expressed the wish that a settlement of the file with the European Union could be reached before the end of the first semester of this year.

  • He indicated, in this connection, that the agricultural track of the Algeria – EU accord would be overhauled notably some clauses regarding customs’ duties and tariffs.

  • Concerning the pending file of Algeria’s protracted adhesion to the WTO (the World Trade Organization), Mr Benbada revealed that the European Union and the United States were to be held accountable for the slow pace of the adhesion procedure.

  • He asserted, to this effect, that the latter were slow in giving the final seal of approval to Algeria’s 96 questions in order to speed up our country’s adhesion to the WTO.
