Member of Algeria’s Justice and Development Front Lakhdar Benkhelaf criticized the justice ministry for dropping judicial advantage in the international arrest warrant for former energy minister Chakib Khelil and other individuals.

In an oral question to justice minister Taib Louh, the deputy said the Interpol did not react although the warrant was issued 70 days ago due to a mistake in dealing with the case.

“The arrest warrant which was issued by the Algiers Public Prosecutor was not in conformity with procedures required by the code of criminal procedures and the Interpol’s procedures code,” he added.

Benkhelaf believes that Chakib Khelil’s corruption-related charges should be handled by the accusation chamber at the Supreme Court which “was supposed to examine the case and check the charges.”

Benkhelaf believes that the arrest warrant can not be applied by the Interpol due to those defects.

Earlier, Khelil said he will enter Algeria and surrender when the Algerian justice deals with him as minister.
