Black report about private schools « wrongdoings »

The Union of Pupil’s Parents said more than 90 percent of private schools in Algeria used to be « villas » while 80 percent of teachers’ salary is not in conformity with education employees’ statute.

« Comments recorded by the Union ahead of the start of the school year show that there were annual good results of public schools, » the union’s president Ahmed Khaled told Echorouk.

« Many parents  have transferred their children from private schools to public ones due to law sucess rate in official exams. This is due to many reasons. Most of teachers at private schools are retired. Although they have professional experience, they are not trained in the new teaching programs. As for fresh graduates, they do not have professional experience because they did not learn teaching skills, » he added.

He also said the salary of teachers at private school is not in conformity with their statute. A total of 80 percent of them earn 18,000 DZ per month.

« The national education ministry should review permission granting concerning private schools. A new clause related to hiring process should be issued. »

According to Khaled, 80 percent of private school pupils had been kicked out from public schools.

« Parents must pay 13,000 DZ per month to private schools. The two only advantages of those schools are canteen and not crowded classrooms, » he said.
