Boulahia:no one is allowed to prevent Bouteflika from running for office
President of foreign affairs committee at the Council of the Nation Ibrahim Boulahia criticized some politicians for opposing President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s fourth term.
“Constitutional conditions are the only criteria for the eligibility to run for office. In my capacity of lawyer, any Algerian citizen has the right to run for office and rule Algeria in conformity to the constitutional requirements,” Boulahia told Echorouk.
“No one is allowed to prevent anyone from running for office,” he added.
Speaking about opposition politicians, he said their efforts are as part of “political marketing.” “It’s up to people to decide in accordance to the law.”
Boulahia criticized opposition political parties, saying he is for elections which will decide about the president.
“Those who talk about boycott have to run for office if they believe that people support them. Politicians must respect people’s will.”
He believes that elections should be held in transparent conditions. “Personally, I am for transparent and honest presidential elections in conformity to international standards.”
