Bouteflika comes back to President’s Office with 20 points

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will join his office on Wednesday to meet his ministers in a first meeting after his five-month-absence due to health problems.

The meeting agenda includes 20 points related to presentations due to be made by the ministers, draft laws, treaties, international conventions and individual decisions.

The Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal’s presentation about the political and economic situation in the country is the second point. Draft bills on the penal law amendment, drug smuggling law, mines law and audiovisual law will be discussed in the meeting as well a number of decrees related to international conventions and treaties.

Although the meeting agenda did not mention a possible constitutional revision, some believe it may be raised during the meeting.

The meeting comes as the president conducted a government reshuffle and changes to military senior positions.

A number of questions are raised about the meeting and the president’s capacity to chair it:how long the meeting would last? Will it be an emergency meeting or an official return to resume activities?
