Brazilian operators seek opportunities in Algeria

The Brazilian secretary of state in charge of agriculture and food safety, Alphonso Inacio Crotes, who leads an important delegation of Brazilian businessmen in a visit to Algeria, yesterday declared that the quantity of frozen meat exported to Algeria reached 51000 tons last year, expecting an increase in the economic exchanges during the ongoing year due to the excellent relationships between the Brazilian and Algerian operators.

• He added that the agricultural exportations towards Algeria got over $ 428 millions last year led by sugar with $ 232.5 millions which accounts for 1 million ton followed by frozen meat with $106.08 millions, milk powder and relevant products with $ 9.54 millions, wood ( $ 3.12millions) and at last cereals with $53.11 millions.
• The Brazilian secretary of state added that his fellow businessmen are fully ready to assist their Algerian counterparts to develop the agriculture industry sector including meat production, stock-farming and milk production, stressing the fact that his country uses 100 per cent bio- technology which enabled it to protect its animal patrimony from mouth and hoof disease.
• For his part, the Brazilian ambassador to Algiers, Sergio França Danis revealed that both his country and Algeria are set to seal three deals during the Brazilian Prime minister’s visit to Algiers within weeks, regarding forest and humid zones’ protection and the development of agriculture industry.
• But the Brazilian businessmen revealed to “Echourouk” that there are not “serious local operators” with whom they can do business despite various opportunities in different sectors of activity, and denounced bureaucratic measures prevailing in the Algerian system.
