British government spokesperson to Echourok: Britain doesn’t differentiate between the citizens of the world

The British Government spokesperson for the Arab World, Martin Day has yesterday revealed to Echourok that Algeria has succeeded to eradicate terrorism and the stability that prevails in the country on the security level in comparison with the past few years, translates this major breakthrough on the ground, adding that the isolated terror acts carried out from time to time could happen in any other country.

He added, in this respect, that “London is always working on enhancing the procedures to issue visas entries to its territories, but we have to scrupulously respect the procedures agreed upon in this field”. He further added “ The positive thing in Algeria is that when a citizen applies for a visa on due time and forwards the appropriate documents, the response is generally swift and positive and this procedure is implemented on all the applicants over the world”.

Martin Day has denied allegations that say that Algerian passports are transferred to Britain as part of the visa procedures, which is against the international laws saying “ Britain is maybe the country that respects the international laws the most, in this respect, passports which are transferred to London are copies not the original ones”.

Algeria must take into consideration foreign investors’ views

The British official has indicated that his country doesn’t question at all the content of the supplementary financial law as concerns the investments’ requirements but, he said, it’s better for all the countries around the world including his, to work for improving the terrain in order to attract more foreign investments that vital for the economies of all the countries including Britain.

He added, in this respect, that Algeria has all the benefits to take into consideration the foreign companies’ views that express their will to invest in Algeria, putting forward his experience as a former investor in Czech Republic working for the count of his embassy, he was always insisting on the principle that firms that have the possibilities to invest abroad have also in today’s world many opportunities to start projects in Eastern Europe, North Africa, the Middle east and Asia.

In the light of this new economic order, governments, including Algeria have to take into account this argument before taking any decision in relation to investments’ issues.

Martin Day has indicated that cooperation between Algeria and Britain in the military and intelligence fields as concerns the anti- terrorism fight has improved significantly in the manner of other countries in the world, mentioning the terrorist attack in London in 2007 which resulted in the killing of 55 civilians from different nationalities.

As to the arguments forwarded by the British government to France and US for not including the Algerian nationals to airports’ scanners controls, Martin Day has summed them up saying that his government doesn’t make any difference between the Algerian citizens and the other nationalities. Britain, he said, treats all human kinds equally regardless of their religion, origin and citizenship.

No special treatment for Algerians as concerns visas

Echourok’s guest has denied the existence of special measures applied by the British authorities to the Algerian citizens to get visas, revealing that no less that 61% of the overall demands for visas to Britain have been accepted over the year 2009.

As to the tricky question of the extradition of the Algerian businessman Abdelmoumen Khalifa, Martin Day has indicated that the British justice is autonomous and the government cannot interfere in the matter.
