Brown's pressurising attempt in the Golf

British Prime Gordon Brown started a tour to Gulf States. He will ask them to help the countries affected by the financial crisis including the UK.

  • Brown, who has embarked on a 4 day tour of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, is hoping to get round regional leaders to provide extra funds to countries hit by the ongoing economic crisis.
  • “Gulf States ought to play a part in settling the global economic downturn”, he said. In the mean time British Premiere wants Opec keep out put  to see oil prices slump more in the international market. His Golf talks are also meant to prevent an other oil production cut expected in the next Opec emergency meeting due to take place in Oran-Algeria on December 17.
  • Opec countries had agreed in Vienna to take “other measures” if oil prices continue to decline after their first cut of 1.5 million barrels. It is assumed that the organization decided to go for an additional production slash already announced by Venezuela and Lybia. Brown bets on Saudi Arabia, the largest oil producer, to market is view among opec member countries.
  •  It’s worth recalling that the financial crisis was touched off in the United States several months ago, when people failed to pay back billions of dollars worth of home loans.
  • Oil rich countries do not share Browns interpretation of the financial crisis and how to solve it. Opec countries have also said they were determined to work for their common interest, which is not necesarily the same interest Brown is looking for in the Golf.
