Building collapse kills two people in Algeria

A woman and her two-year-old child were killed Thursday when an old building collapsed in Oran province (west of Algeria) due to heavy rains.

• Rains have been pouring on Oran and its suburbs all Thursday’s night till Friday morning causing dangerous landslide.
• In Algiers, at least 15 people were injured and many houses were destroyed Thursday due to water floods.
• Rains displaced tens of families living at the edge of Ouadi Ouchaih valley while it took all the day for specialised technical teams to fix the damage. 
• The strong storm struck at around 1 a.m. and lasted till 3 a.m. on Friday as the valley water flooded tens of the shanty houses and swept everything they contained including residents.
• Stones and dirt fell down from a nearby mountain due to the heavy rains causing the collapse of some houses.
