Canadian christian woman tells the story of her conversion to Islam

• Mrs Ahmed Hmimed Farida Nour, formerly known as Joelle Martin converted to Islam in 1993 at Otawa mosque after a long introspection and study of several other religions and beliefs.
• She said that her choice of the Islam as a religion was on a deep conviction after searching and studying several other religions in which she discovered a lot of good things but people were not behaving accordingly.
• Her quest for the new religion started with an English version of the Koran given to her by an Indian student. One day, she added, she dreamt of a slim tall old man dressed in white who hold her hand and gave her a book asking her to read it. When she woke up, she remembered that she was hiding the Koran and shelved it out to start reading the same verse she saw in her dream.
• The best thing she found in Islam is the existence of strong family and social links between people as well as a great sense of solidarity by contrast with the Canadian society in which she was raised. Her four children who were born in Canada play with their cousins and other kids in the compound freely, while it would have been impossible if they stayed in their home country.
• The lady decided to stay for real in Algerian in 2006 after marrying Hmimed Hossein who migrated to Canada in 1995. Amazingly enough, her husband’s family was not so strict with the religious practices.
