Cars stolen from Europe and Asia smuggled to Algeria as spare parts

A study by the Regional Directorate of Customs “Algeria Port” reveals that the qantities which are seized at the Algerian port are at least ten containers per month and dozens of vehicles, 90% of them are coming from China through Dubai or France, Belgium, Italy and Spain.

  •
  •
  • Echorouk sources said that 80% of the reserved engines and cars and trucks’ structures were originally stolen in these countries, where vendors escaped from prosecution of the security and trade interests, thus smuggling them through the Algerian ports using customs sale certificates or auctions’ sale crtificates, which were organized by the property state on the basis that they are sale certificates of smuggled spare parts, but these certificates have no relation with those spare parts.
  •
  • Smugglers and dealers of the spare parts resorted to this ploy to avoid the follow-ups, and seizures thus to take the advantage of the lack of details in these cetificates, including the type, nature and quantity of the spare parts.
  •
  • The estimated amount which was seized in the port of Algiers is 120 tons, which were on board of vehicles which were also seized, as indicated in the law containing the seizure of smuggled spare parts.
