Cement destroyed 150.000 hectars of Agricultural lands

Over 150,000 hectares of agricultural lands lost their agricultural nature for since Algeria’s independence, according to figures provided by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Rachid Benaissa, who believes that this transformation becomes difficult due to the procedure that was imposed by the public authorities.

Upon coming off on Monday as a guest on the national radio, Benaissa asserted that the loss in the area of agricultural lands “estimated at 150,000 hectares since independence, and perhaps beyond that.”

The minister regretted the transformation of these lands from their character, which has been “easy” to give way to construction, reminding the procedure that has been developed to stop the crisis of agricultural land ; “The matter imposed the intervention of the President Bouteflika, as well as the application of laws that determine conditions for transforming the agricultural lands “. 

On the other hand, the Minister of Agriculture spoke about the new procedure, which frames the creation of new agricultural investments through the reform process, noting in this regard that 350,000 hectares on the territory of the state’s private property, which will be delivered. 

In the same direction, Ben Aissa admitted that; “The agricultural land conversion always forms a point of difference between sector of agriculture and other sectors, but it becomes increasingly more difficult thanks to the issuance of laws”.
