Chemical factory catches fire in Algiers suburbs

A huge fire broke out Thursday at “MegaAction” chemical plant specialized in the fabric chemical products used in wood and crystal burnishing and cleansing agents.

• According to witnesses on spot, the fire occurred before the break of fasting as smoke and chemical smell started filling the air and blazes extended to a nearest warehouse stuffed with chemical barrels.
• A series of explosions were heard and the area was flooded by toxic chemical products. Fire fighters battled against the flames and spared the area of Bentalha (Algiers suburbs) a genuine ecological catastrophe.
• The fire didn’t cause human losses or injuries since the 60 employees were out of work at the moment of the accident.
• The national gendarmerie opened an inquiry to probe on the causes behind the fire and proceeded to the questioning of the factory’s wardens.
