Chinese worker gets two years prison on charges of trying to bribe a police officer in Algiers

A Chinese man appeared Wednesday before Sidi Amhamed court, Algiers, on charges of granting undue advantage to a police officer, because of offering a bribe to the chief of investigation group in charge of foreigners at the police headquarters in exchange for resolving the file of four Chinese in Algeria.

 

• According to the hearing, facts of the case back to last April 29, when the Chinese man went to the headquarters of Algiers security services in order to inquire on the files of four Chinese who were working in Algeria before the end of their contract. The victim, who works as chief of the security team in charge of foreigners and member of the General Directorate of National Security, told him that the files are considered at the level of the general directorate; therefore, he must wait for days.

• However; the Chinese man waited for a moment, then re-entered to the office and offered a bribe of 20.000 dinars to the chief of investigation police, telling him; “ Buy chocolate and cigarettes and try to sipped up the procedures”, that’s why the police officer rushed to file a complaint against him on charges of offering a bribe.

• Court sentenced him to two years prison and a 20.000 dinars fine.
