CIA: Egypt Betrayed Algerians In The Arab-Israeli War, No War Between Algeria And Morocco

CIA declassified documents revealed that the utmost attention of the American administration to the Algerian affairs since independence, is the monitoring and editing of reports about the Algerian-Moroccan relations, Western Sahara file, the relationship of Algeria with France, Algeria’s support for the liberation movements, its position to Egypt during the Arab-Israeli wars, and its internal affairs, especially the events of October, 5, 1988.

US intelligence agents predicted, according to the reports, the October, 5, 1988 events, in a document that is entitled “Growing challenges of Ben Djedid”, as they doubted about the system’s ability to confront and deal with public anger at the time, especially with the worsening crisis in the end of the eighties, as a result of the tumbling oil prices.

Same documents show that the recorded imbalances triggered a split within the ruling party and the government.

“Washington expressed concern about what it called, weakness of President Chadli Ben Djedid, especially as he was working on finding a peaceful relationship with America”.

TSA news wibsite (All About Algeria), said the conflict between the Polisario Front and the Moroccan occupier, is one of the declassified document, as the US intelligence agencies prediscted that “Both parties are unable to resolve the dispute once and for all militarily”!

“Algeria supports the Polisario independence, and worked on the depletion of Morocco, through inducting 100.000 soldiers and keeping them in the conflict zone”.

Another document, that is dated, April 1987, states that the direct dialogue about the Sahraoui file was not between the Algerian and Moroccan governments, while another telegram, dated in March 1987, ruled out the occurrence of a war between the two countries, proposing scenarios for a confrontation between them, saying that Algeria’s decision to send what they called “combatants” to the other side of the border to support the Polisario Front, is an unexpected scenario for Morocco, according to estimates of the United States Agency.

The other file, which was the focus of the US intelligence, is the Arab war against Zionism in 1973, and the role of Algeria: “There was a great sense of anger in Algeria, and Algerians felt betraying by Egypt, after announcing a ceasefire, while the Algerians were fighting against Israel”.

CIA paid interest to importing Soviet arms to Algeria, in a confidential document that refers to the follow-up of the ceremony of Algeria’s reception to the first submarine in its history after independence in 1982.

It also focused on the external support of Algeria to some of the revolutionary forces, and helping the arrival of Soviet arms shipments to some countries.

CIA documents on Algeria are one of the 13 million confidential documents, that anyone in the world can see without fear of prosecution, because the source of these documents are not WikiLeaks or any other website for leaking confidential documents, but they are declassified by the agency itself and were published online as well.
