Civil servants’ salaries reconsidered

Civil servants’ salaries reconsidered
Tlemcent municipality (west of Algeria).

The head of the administration at the public services department, Djamel Kherchi ordered the mayors across the country to resume paying the non established civil servants on an eight hour a day basis instead of five decided in 2007.

  • Some 154 thousands civil servants saw their salary shrinking drastically following the prior decision going down from 12,000 to 10,000 Algerian Dinars which upset the budget of these families.
  • For his part, the general secretary of the national federation of the Civil Services workers, Omar Igusmman, declared to “Echourouk” that the dispute was settled during a meeting held last month between the two parties and succeeded in alleviating the prevailing tension among the employees.
