Experts at the Ministry of Health and Population revealed people of more than 65 are less subjected to H1N1 virus.

  • The general-secretary of the Health Ministry and Population said Algeria did not receive any formal correspondence from the Saudi authorities to prevent people over 65 years from the pilgrimage and Algeria did not attend the meeting of the health ministers in Cairo, headed by the Regional Office of the WHO in the Middle East and also did not participate in the ratification of the 15 recommendations agreed upon by the conferees, “Algeria will not take the decision to prevent any category from doing pilgrimage because of the H1N1 virus”.
  • The Algerian authorities have set up, early this week, a committee of experts to study the recommendations of the council of the health ministers in Cairo calling for the prevention of people over 65 from pilgrimage fearing of the spread of the swine flu virus.
  • In the meantime, thousands of Algerian, winners in the draw for the pilgrimage and candidates to perform the next pilgrimage season and who are over 65, are waiting the formal decision by the Algerian government, to allow or prevent them from going to the holy place.
