US embassy in Algiers
Meeting between officials from the Algerian Anti Corruption Association and diplomats at the U.S embassy to Algiers, noticed large political and media controversy, as the American embassy protested because the national press did not contact it to know about its position of the file, without denying what was reported in the association’s statement, that resumed the meeting’s course that focused on corruption in Algeria, and the relationship with the 2014 presidential elections.
U. S. Embassy regretted, in a statement, which copy is available to Echorouk, the lack of communication with the Algerian media, to be sure of what it described as “facts” that were reported in the association’s report, and which followed the meeting of the two parties at the embassy in Algiers last April 17, and which talked about the vision of Americans about corruption cases and the relation with the presidential elections of 2014.
U.S embassy said in statement that responds to the articles which were published on May 12, on the meeting between officials of the embassy and Mr. Hadjadj from the Algerian Anti Corruption Association; “We encourage chief editors to make sure of the facts before publishing a content that is provided by one side because it is one of the professional media specialisation, and the U.S embassy is completely ready to respond to such inquiries
Contrary to all that, head of the Anti Corruption Association, Djilali Hadjadj, praised the reaction of the national media from the association statement on corruption, which contained the Algerian public opinion’s resentment and its belief that Barack Obama’s government is protecting the former Energy Minister Chakib Khelil, because he has the American nationality, and the American interest to the Public Works Minister, Ammar Ghoul, as they wondered whether he is really implicated in corruption or no?And if so how could he escape the judicial inquiry?and is there a relationship between the cases of corruption that occurred recently and the settling of accounts in light of 2014 presidential elections?
