Corruption ring in ferrous and non ferrous products involving customs' agents brought before justice
Echorouk has learnt from authorized sources that the file concerning the direct involvement of several customs' agents accused of malpractice and corruption practices is being diligently examined by the criminal chamber of the supreme court of Algiers.
- The same sources say that this big corruption affair involves 12 customs agents and dates back to the month of July 2000 when the culprits were exposed following an in-depth investigation conducted by the relevant security services.
- The defendants are accused of having forged official documents and having received “dirty money” from an unscrupulous operator named “Y.K” who had imported from abroad 16 containers of ferrous and non-ferrous materials weighing 110 tonnes.
- This operator who is also in the dock, is said to have bribed these customs’ agents with the aim of averting to pay the regulatory customs’ taxes on the imported shipment of this big quantity of ferrous and non-ferrous products.
- After several appeals, this corruption case has been conveyed to the general prosecutor’s office at the Algiers supreme courts for a final ruling.
