Costly water pump of Beni Haroun dam bust up after just 2 years of use
Well informed sources told “Echorouk” that the giant water pump of the eastern Beni Haroun dam which cost the Algerian state an expenditure of 176 billion centimes (in Dinars) has broken down after being operational for only two years.
-
As a matter of fact, this very costly water pump was the target of a blaze on the 23rd of last June and it is now beyond repair, according to specialists.
-
This giant and modern water pump was set up in the Beni Haroun dam with the aim of supplying with drinking water several big areas in the east of the country including the cities of Constantine and Mila.
-
A team of French experts from the Alstom company were dispatched to the scene of the accident to see how the water pump could be salvaged but their somber assessment of the situation proved the opposite as they asserted that this water pump is now totally out of use and should be replaced by a brand-new one.
-
This untoward development could well have adverse repercussions on the local populations of the eastern part of the country on account of a feared lack of drinkable water supply during this hot summer season and especially during the upcoming month of fasting of Ramadhan slated for early August.
