Court to deal with Constitutional Council and UN refugee agency bombings in Algeria
The trial of people involved in the Constitutional Council and the UN refugee agency bombings in Algiers was held Thursday in the presence of a large number of the victims’ families. Defence lawyers of most of the arrested suspects were absent.
- People accused of being behind an attack against a bus carrying BRC company’s workers in Bouchaoui in Algiers in 2006 are also expected to be trialled.
- The suspects admitted that they belonged to Al Faruk group in charge of bombings in Algiers. Principal suspect B. Fouad said he joined terrorists at request of accused K. Ahmed. He was arrested following investigations. Security forces caught him carrying 8 mobile phones and a fix phone in his car.
- He also said Al Faruk group working in Boumerdes mountains (50 km east of Algiers) used to recruit unknown people to avoid investigations. He gave details about the Bouchaoui bombs, saying accused T. Yacine was an engineer at BRC and transmitted information about it to terrorists.
- The suspects revealed all the steps they had made to attack the constitutional Council and the UN refugee agency. They talked about buying the bomb cars and choosing suicide bombers Bechla and Abu Dadjana.
- The court decided to postpone the case to December because of the absence of defence lawyers.
