Crime Index 2016: Algeria Ranks Second Regionally, 24 Globally
Algeria ranks second in the Arab World after Libya, and 24 globally, in the crime index of a report that was prepared by the website “Numbeo”, which is one of the largest databases on the Internet in the world, in terms of the follow-up of the evolution of murder, robbery, theft, rape and other forms of criminality.
Annual report of the website “Numbeo” about the organized crime, shows that Libya ranks 22nd globally in the rate of rising crime in the Arab world with an index of 57.81 and it comes first, followed by Algeria which ranks 24 out of 117 countries, and second in the Arab world.
Egypt ranks Third, then Somalia and Syria, although these countries notice daily attacks, stealing, robbing, raping and killing.
Algeria is experiencing in recent years a terrible rise of crime amid individuals and families, prompting the security services and experts, to sound the alarm about the growing crime, which calls for the preparation of an emergency plan to address the situation, according to many specialists and activists.
“Numbeo” website’s index published a semi-annual report, and it worked on it throughout the year, and publishes it every six months to show the countries’ crime rates and sometimes in capitals.
Crime index report explained that it evaluates the crimes, according to each country, in the sense that there are acts that are considered crimes in states, and in others they are not considered so, and therefore, and the cases in which there are crimes, as considered according to the laws of each country, are mentioned during the preparation of the report.
Same body counts some cases, which contain the intention to do a criminal act, to be included in the framework of the encyclopedia of statistics, in addition to a clear distinction between the different and gradual types of crimes, such as misdemeanors and felonies, and others.
Information and data collection mechanism are represented in answering a long poll, which questions were prepared to evaluate the level of each state with regard to crime rates, similar to the results of crime and violence, and acts of terrorism, murder and precautionary measures by the non-governmental organizations and other bodies.
Unlike most other international institutions, which issue annual reports on something, so that its researchers work throughout the year for research and analysis of the data and information they need, to hold a comparison between different countries; Numbeo Encyclopedia is characterized with skipping the last step, meaning that it does not choose specific people to get answers from the public polls, but the poll is conducted on random samples.
Based on these answers, and in addition to the research, 117 countries are evaluated in scale that ranges from zero to 100, so as countries that contain less rates of crime occur on an assessment that is close to zero, while the rates rise in countries that are close to 100.
Venezuela is at the forefront of the table, because it contains the largest crime rates in the world for 2016, as it got 84.44 points, followed in second rank by South Sudan with 81.32, and third rank is South Africa, followed by the new state of Guinea in the fourth rank, then Honduras fifth, followed by: Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, El Salvador, Brazil and Kenya.
